Teacher explaining English text to students on residential course in the UK

We encourage students to take an active role in their education, developing their ability to think independently and to challenge themselves. By creating courses that reflect not only academia but also the modern workplace, we help students to cultivate their own unique set of passions and ambitions for adult life.

Much like our year-round pupils, we instil our summer school students with the confidence to seek out challenge, dive into self-reflection and strive for excellence.

Academic Vision

Our vision for Charterhouse Summer School focuses on promoting academic rigour, developing intellectual curiosity and nurturing our international students in their ability and desire to learn independently. “These academic courses represent the expertise and passions of our year-round staff and make the most of our exceptional school facilities. They are fun and inspiring but also demanding and ambitious. Studying with us gives students a flavour of life at our school and in many cases, an insight into British university education.” – Mr Simon Allen, Assistant Head (Academic)

Teaching Team

Our academic curriculum is overseen by Deputy Academic Head, Simon Allen and Simon’s vision for the summer school is woven into every part of the programme. Taking advantage of the expertise and facilities on site, we have created a curriculum that echoes our overall academic philosophy for our pupils.

Our teaching team is led by expert teachers from outside the school. In addition, students will be introduced to inspirational leaders in their field through specialist workshops and seminars during the course.

Testimonials

“The level of instruction was clearly recorded from the beginning of the lesson and this prevented unnecessary steps backwards or repetitions. In contrast to school, the lessons were also very practical, in that many speaking, listening and also some writing tasks were dealt with, but we were also taught strategies and various approaches to solving them, for example. Despite this structured program, thanks to the class and the teacher, the lessons were really fun and were actually a big highlight of the trip.”– Lauro, 17 years (Aug. 2022 for 2 weeks)

"There were only a small number  in a class and therefore the lessons were very intensive and tailored to personal needs and designed in a playful way. There were very good (exercise) tasks and a lot of communication. All the students in my class were at the same level. It made you feel safer and allowed you to speak more freely without worrying about doing or saying the wrong thing.” – Carlotta 14 years old (July 2022 for 2 weeks)

Carlotta came home fulfilled, enriched and very happy. It was a very successful language trip and we are very satisfied and happy with the result." - Carlotta's parents, 14 years (July 2022 for 2 weeks)
